Winter’s night

O’ cold is the breeze
and slight.
And shining in the soft light
and exposed,
as spacious as the Lord’s mercy,
Lay grass suffocating in the starlight
And high in the cliff corners,
spread the fires,
the grass seed stirring
like winking hands.
Oh, disturbing the tune
on the breeze of the east,
like the melody of a girl
forgotten in her love.
In each grass’s pleat
reflect a drop of dew,
and swiftly whiten it
to blight in the chill!
