In a hotel room, a journey began,
Two souls intertwined, with a lifetime plan.
To Rhodesia they traveled, so young, so carefree,
Leaving behind memories, and a pair of pants, you see.
From minutes to years, time swiftly flew,
Together they danced, in joy and in blue.
A daughter, a son, their hearts did claim,
Sanet and Eddie, to the legacy came.
Twins from the first, studying away,
In Stellenbosch’s halls, they light up the day.
A grandson too, eager to learn, from Theuns and Liesel
To Potchefstroom he will soon turn.
55 years of love, soon they’ll mark,
A testament of time, a beacon in the dark.
So here’s to Elsie, as 74 she turns,
With love that constantly, brightly burns.
To the man beside her, who loved her so true,
May our journey together continue anew!
