Holocaust Voices

After the Holocaust, survivors and the watching world asked if God is alive. It was incomprehensible that God could allow “Mass Killings” (The Holocaust) to take place without God stopping it! Elie Wiesel believed God was alive, but ignored the Holocaust, quite for a strange reason:

“God, You heard us crying and praying! But you looked away. Why God?”.

It often happens that people close to the carnage and death cannot believe that God does not get involved and bring relief as he did with Abraham (Genesis 22) who was about to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on the mountain.

God told Abraham to release his son and slaughter the ram, provided by God. God rewarded Abraham for his intention to obey God and to sacrifice his son, Isaac.

The “Lapse of Time explains the reason God was silent and allowed the killing to continue”. God wanted to make sure that the sacrifice presented (The Jewish People, Jewish Enemies and People of the world) to never forget that He is God and that He decides the place of the Jewish People and all other nations.

The Reward Of God:

God gives Israel to the Jews in addition to all the land taken away from the Jews and Jerusalem. The enemies of Israel do not like what God is doing, and all their attempts to regain what God has taken away have failed dismally and will continue to fail! The world can no longer act “indifferently” whether positively or negatively. The United Nations is an excellent example of the negativity brought against Israel.

Before the Holocaust and WWII, the Jewish nation was spread over the world and had no land as they were driven from their land by the enemies of the Jewish people and the world watched indifferently. The lapse of time showed that God accepted the offer of 6 million Jewish lives sacrificed, and in return:

1. God broke his silence and allowed, on May 14, 1948, in Tel Aviv, Jewish Agency Chairman David Ben-Gurion to proclaim the State of Israel, establishing the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. Ben-Gurion became Israel’s first premier. Jews joyously celebrated the birth of their new nation; especially after word received that the United States had recognized the Jewish state.

2. During the third Arab-Israeli conflict, “the Six-Day War of 1967” Israel again significantly increased its borders, capturing from Jordan, Egypt, and Syria the Old City of Jerusalem, the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

3. In 1979, Israel and Egypt signed a historic peace agreement in which Israel returned to the Sinai in exchange for Egyptian recognition and peace.

4. Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) signed a major peace accord in 1993, which envisioned the gradual implementation of Palestinian self-government in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Author’s Note: The Israeli-Palestinian peace process moved with no progress to date. In 2000 major fighting between Israelis and Palestinians resumed in Israel and the occupied territories.

5. DEC. 6, 2017 WASHINGTON: President Trump on Wednesday formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing nearly seven decades of American foreign policy and setting in motion a plan to move the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to the fiercely contested Holy City.

President Trump: “Today we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital,”

Elie Wiesel Quotes on God, the Holocaust and Humanity

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, author and human rights activist passed away on Saturday at 87. (2 July 2016)

  1. It seemed as impossible to conceive of Auschwitz with God as to conceive of Auschwitz without God. Therefore, everything had to reassess because everything had changed.

2. For us, forgetting was never an option. Remembering is a noble and necessary act.

3. Indifference is the epitome of evil.

4. Never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormentor.

5. Waking among the dead, one wondered if one was still alive. Nevertheless, real despair only seized us later. Afterwards, we emerged from the nightmare and began to search for meaning.

6. No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night.

7. Rarely speak about God. To God, yes. I protest against Him. I shout at Him. Nevertheless, open discourse about the qualities of God, about the problems that God imposes, theology, never. However, He is there, in silence, in filigree.

8. The opposite of love does not hate; it is indifference. The opposite of beauty is not ugliness; it is indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy; it is indifference. Moreover, the opposite of life is not death, but indifference between life and death.

9. No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgements are wrong. Only racists make them.

When a Jew visits Jerusalem for the first time, it is not the first time; it is a homecoming.
